Sailing
On Sunday we went on a three hour participatory cruise on a 130 foot sailboat. Kevin was like a little kid on Christmas morning, running around with a huge smile on his face. He loves sailing! He kept exclaiming, "this is WAY better than Disneyland!" The weather was beautiful, with a stiff breeze blowing. However, when we got out in the bay we realized that we didn't have nearly enough clothes on. It was freezing!! The crew ended up giving the kids all their extra coats and we were still cold. Because it is a participatory cruise, the passengers get to help sail the ship. We pulled the lines to raise and move and lower the sails and cleaned the deck and manned the wheel and got yelled at just like real sailors. Emily was so cold that she spent most of the time down below, making friends with the docent. Once we got out of the bay and into the ocean, poor Porter got so sick! He was just green. He sat very still with his eyes closed and not speaking. I think he was afraid to open his mouth! When we got back into the bay the water smoothed out and it was better. But Porter says his sailing days are over.
