What's in a Name?

The following is a conversation I had with Aleise on the way to preschool last week.

Me: Aleise, be sure to write your name on your papers today (she doesn't write her name and then the teacher thinks it is because she doesn't know how and I just can't have that.)

Aleise: Okay... how do you spell Susianna?

Me: No, write YOUR name. Write Aleise on your papers.

Aleise: (wistfully) But Susianna is such a beautiful name.

I think Aleise is a beautiful name. That is why I named you Aleise and not Susianna, silly girl!

Noah: "Mom, I am a big fan of that swingset." 4.4
Noah: "I like that song we sang in church today about the gummy saints." (Come, Come Ye Saints) 4.4
Emily: Yawning isn't because you're tired ~ yawning is air conditioning for your brain. 7.3
Aleise was trying to tell me that she wanted a piece of cheese but I thought she was saying juice (which really means milk, so complicated!) You could tell that she understood that I wasn't getting it because she wasn't saying it right. Finally, she scrunched up her face like she does when we are taking pictures and tell her to "say cheese!" and said CHEESE! I got it! 1.10
Noah: Mom, you are not the most beautiful thing in the world. But you are beautiful. But God is the most beautiful thing in the whole world. 4.1 How can you argue with that?
Emily (waiting for me to explain some schoolwork to her): Mom, I am suffering here! 7.3
We were talking about our upcoming trip to California. Noah was very excited and said, "I hope God doesn't kill me on THIS trip." Me too, buddy, me too! --Noah 3.11 This kid makes me laugh every day!
"Behold, I deliver you into the hands of the Lamanites!" -- Noah loves to play scripture heroes, his favorite is Ammon. 3.11
"I thought you wanted your hair blonde. If you want it blonde, why do you color it that color?" -- Emily 7.2
